VILLA DETAILS
Flying in to Nice, it is a short drive to Cap Ferrat through the city, past the superyacht port and up on to the Corniche towards Monte Carlo. Clearly this is a different France – la crème de la Côte. Palms and pines line the winding route down into St Jean. Pass the pretty bars and restaurants, the beret-clad artists, contemporary street sculptures, the port filled with sleek yachts and families on the sandy beach. The chauffeur turns up the private road to Villa Saint Jean. And there it is – tiers of terraces, shields of glass, a tricolour of white walls, cobalt sky and pine green trees.
The light and space are overwhelming. A champagne cork pops and canapés are served on the vast semicircular balcony. Below, a whirl of activity sees your cases brought inside to be carefully unpacked. This French villa is beautifully set up to make you feel totally relaxed and totally at home. Because for a while at least, it is.
Villa Saint Jean has five levels. Ascending alternatives are a spiral staircase that winds within the huge atrium past a 25 metre Banksy mural, or a glass enclosed wall-climbing lift. Villa Saint Jean sleeps up to 10 guests in four bedrooms with an additional two in the Penthouse Suite. The master suite has spectacular views through floor-to-ceiling windows. Remote control curtains open to let sunbeams flood the room with warm light. Opposite the bed, the Bang and Olufsen screen is linked to the central satellite and DVD system. Take breakfast on the private semicircular terrace. The bathroom is a sublime exercise in understated opulence. A rain shower (from mist to torrential), walk-in wardrobe and the bath are all warmed by an open fire. The two first floor suites have full-width windows, a walk-in wardrobe, fossil granite bathroom and full entertainment systems including an iPod dock. On the ground floor, the fourth double bedroom has a sitting area and en-suite bathroom.
Outdoor areas include a split-level deck with an infinity pool and dining terrace. Villa Saint Jean brilliantly combines complete privacy with exceptional entertaining areas including a cinema room. The sublime elegance of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat complements the awe-inspiring style of Villa Saint Jean.
