INTRODUCTION
Our luxury Ibiza & Menorca villas need little introduction as mecca of the party-set. Ibiza's climate, laid-back atmosphere, fine beaches and shimmering waters brought the travel cognoscenti long ago and many refused to leave. If you can drag yourself away from the bohemian throng, Ibiza’s rugged natural beauty is waiting to be explored.
The landscape of the south-west is particularly arresting with its white sand, turquoise waters, dramatic coastal views and pine forests. Superlatives abound. The rest of the island does not disappoint either, its gorgeous combination of wooded valleys, mountains, clifftop walks, immaculate beaches and underwater caves provide diverse opportunities to engage in a range of activities such as windsurfing, walking, mountain biking and scuba diving.
As with most Mediterranean islands, Ibiza has had its fair share of governors from the Phoenicians to Romans to Arabs. The Arabs left an indelible mark on the landscape by introducing a successful irrigation system for intensive farming, but it was Phoenicians who left something even more impressive in the remarkable Puig des Molins Nekropolis, one of the largest and best-preserved underground tombs in the world. The importance of the island to these civilisations is most obvious in the series of impressive battlements and “pirate” towers that dot the landscape. Chosen for their strategic positioning, if you happen to be close to one, you will also happen to be close to a spectacular view, particularly if the sun is starting to sink into the ocean for one of those unforgettable sunsets.
Our luxury Ibiza & Menorca villas include the traditional Finca Can Buenavista, located in the beautiful hills of the south, but just a short drive the buzz of Ibiza Town. Spectacular Villa Jondal is just a short distance from some of the island’s most spectacular beaches.
The Menorcan capital, Mahon, bustles with tempting bakeries, family boutiques trading in leather and pottery and old markets serving local delicacies and freshly hauled fish. At the east end of the island, the old capital Ciutadella is a handsome town with a charming old quarter well worth a wander around. Both towns have benefited from a strict development policy on the island which has prohibited urban sprawl and retained their characters. The tranquil S'Albufera d'es Grau national park is found on the green northern coast and is a great spot for a stroll and a fish lunch.
Menorca's perfect marriage of tranquillity and natural beauty was recognised by UNESCO twenty years ago when it designated the whole island as a biosphere reserve, eager to protect its wetlands, the gorges and caves system and its rare flora. Being slightly cooler than neighbouring Majorca and Ibiza, means visitors can comfortably explore the many archaeological sites and indulge in some more active pursuits such as horse riding or mountain biking. The prize here, as with the other Balearics is of course the crystal clear waters, the only difference in Menorca is that you may well find yourself on the beach alone.
Of our villas in Menorca, Santa Maria, is particularly impressive, with 9 bedrooms and a full team of staff, including a chef, while El Bosquecillo is a striking modern villa with superb sea views. Both Ibiza and Menorca are relatively small and the towns, villages and beaches can easily be explored, if you can tear yourself away from your private swimming pool.
