Unconfined by hotel rooms, timings and formalities of dining, families can relax and parents don’t need to restrain their children from having fun and making noise. See below for some of our top tips when booking a family villa holiday.
Child safety: Ask about potential safety hazards such as staircases with open spaces between the steps or open sided staircases. Ask about drops in the garden and whether the pool has a safety feature such as alarm, cover or fence. Our villas are regularly inspected for safety, especially with children in mind, and our expert team of villa specialists can advise on any potential hazards, such as drops from pools, recommending alternative luxury family villas where appropriate.
Family-friendly facilities: Ask about facilities such as high chairs, cots, pushchairs, games, baby baths and bottle sterilisers. Facilities can vary from villa to villa, but with advance notice your A&K Villas Consultant can make arrangements to suit your family requirements.
Privacy for multi-generational families: Enjoying quality time with loved ones is one of the great privileges of a villa vacation. However, you might want to consider a villa which allows a degree of privacy for different generations of your family, especially grandparents or teenagers. Many of our villas have separate wings or cottages, ideal for multi-generational families, where there are great 'togetherness' areas as well as independent space for quiet moments.
Room arrangements: Whilst there is sometimes a choice of villas with 'democratic bedrooms', most villas have bedrooms which vary in size, facilities and aspect. Bear this in mind especially if travelling with another family and agree in advance who gets the sea view room if there is only one. (A good rule could be that the person who makes the booking gets first choice of rooms). We provide floor plans for most of our villas and so you can select rooms in advance if you wish. Your A&K Villas Consultant is happy to assist with this.
Family days out: Few will want to leave the privacy of their family villa, especially with a private pool to splash about in, but for those wishing to venture a little further, our Villa Consultants can advise on all sorts of activities to keep little ones amused. Activities include learning how to milk a goat and make cheese at a Provencal farm, exploring the underground tunnels of Siena, enjoying a children's painting class in the Cote d'Azur and gelato tasting in Florence.
Location, location, location! None of us like long transfer journeys, especially small children, so bear in mind proximity to airport when selecting your villa. Teenagers are bound to want to be near some degree of social facility and so check whether the 'ten minutes from nearest town' is ten minutes walk or drive. And check access to the property - are there numerous steps up to the entrance (inconvenient with pushchairs) or can the rental car drive right to the door? Your A&K Villas Consultant will be able to advise on all of this so let them know the ages of your family members and they'll happily recommend suitable properties for you.
Pre-book services: Arriving and having to head out for groceries can be a pain if you've had a long flight or arrived at an awkward hour. Consider booking pre-arrival shopping delivery, therefore, or maybe arrange for a chef to come and cook for you on your first evening. If you're planning a party, a private chef means no-one has to be tied to the kitchen or clear away afterwards.
Keep everyone occupied: Look out for playrooms and facilities to keep children happy as well as places of interest nearby for some of the older members of the family to explore. Some villas come with private cinemas or PlayStations, perfect for teenagers or older children. We have a number of villas with tennis courts and other sporting facilities, ideal for young and old, whether competitive or simply having fun.
