A little north-west of Chianti lies the Renaissance city of Lucca. In the 18th-century this region was very popular with wealthy merchants, who built their grand summer homes here. Many of these have now been restored into some of our more opulent villas. Sensitively revitalised, they offer Tuscany’s rustic magnetism combined with modern comforts, from swimming pools to spa facilities.
The unquestioned jewel in Tuscany’s crown has to be the majestic city of Florence. Beyond Rome, this thriving hub was at the heart of the Italian Renaissance. Fashionistas will be spoiled by the boutiques of Via Tornabuoni, while Florence’s cultural heritage makes it one of the most visited cities in Italy. The Accademia, the Uffizi and the Bargello are just a handful of the museums that bring visitors flocking to this historic city.
With seemingly endless medieval villages, ancient castles and fields of sunflower, you’ll never be short of historic sights to see. Tipping
You are not expected to tip on top of restaurant service charges, though leaving a small amount is common practice. If there is no service charge, you might consider leaving 10%/15%, but it is not obligatory. In bars any small change is left as a tip. Tipping taxi drivers is also not mandatory but suggested.
