Quite simply one of the most unique properties in Europe, a stay at San Lorenzo Mountain Lodge is certainly not your standard ski holiday. Lovingly restored by its passionate owners, San Lorenzo Mountain Lodge affords supreme levels of service in the most idyllic haven on earth. Benefiting from being a 42 acre private estate nestled 1,200m up high, you'd be hard pushed to find a more magical retreat. The stage that unfolds in front of you is that of far reaching views over three valleys, countless hilltop village forts and, believe it or not, a 19-hole golf course - your very own 19-hole golf course!

Succeed in tearing yourself away from this panoramic spectacle and you will be rewarded for your efforts. Because from the moment you step foot into the Lodge's resplendent entrance you feel you have been transported back to a bygone era. Cunningly achieved through the impeccable attention to detail bestowed by its owners, Stefano and Giorgia, evidence of the former regal residents of this hunting lodge are everywhere. From the original farming antiques hanging from the domed ceilings of the entrance hallway to the cosy authentic alpine stube heating the once parlour now exquisite dining room: From the heavy, rich mahogany of the owners' great, great grandfather's bedframe to the overwhelming fragrance of the mountains oozing from the sauna walls constructed from the trees of the surrounding forests; every conceivable effort has gone into marrying authenticity with sophistication. And the result is a resounding success. Instantly you feel at home. There are no limitations here, time loses all forms of existence - for the duration of your stay this paradise is your home. Breakfast and dinner is as and when you want it. The wine cellar is entirely yours to enjoy. The plunge pool, basking in the glorious views, is inviting you to dip in. Perhaps the only things that we simply insist you must do are: When deciding on your menu, do depend upon Giorgia's culinary genius to guide you in your choice. When popping down to the wine cellar, do take Stefano with you and be inspired by his passionate expertise. And when slipping into that plunge pool, do be sure to hang your robe on that heated rack - nobody likes to be caught out in the cold!

Cross Country - A sport for gourmets of nature who like a little bit of peace and quiet in their day

Sledding - Find your spot on the hill, take that hard walk up and whizz back down. Sledding is fun for all and certainly tires everyone out

Snowshoeing - You can get off the well-trodden paths with your snowshoes attached to your feet. Take in the scenery and soak up that mountain air on your own mountain adventure

Winter Hiking - Known to be a hiking paradise all year round but the winter boasts spectacular views and of course the winter wonderland feel

Ice skating - Ice skating in the centre of the village is a must. On the natural rink it is a relaxing way to spend the evening before or after supper

Ice Climbing - Climbing up the bizzare ice walls with their jagged peaks it is not an activity for the faint hearted. With full instruction for those brave enough to give it a go it is a worthwhile challenge

Snow tubing - Something for the children here on the mini slope with the fun tyres. If skiing hasn’t tired them out this certainly will

Italian and German are spoken in Northern Italy. Italian and German are widely spoken in all resorts in the Dolomites. In some areas you will even hear the traditional mother tongue, Ladin which has survived the test of time. Menus and information are generally translated into English as well.

The official currency is the Euro (€). Coins are available in 1 cent, 2 cent, 5 cent, 10 cent, 20 cent, 50, cent, €1 & €2 denominations. Notes are available in €5, €10, €20, €50, €100, €200, €500 denominations.

Travellers cheques are widely accepted for exchange or purchase in major cities, but in more rural areas, visit a bank to exchange them for Euros. Major credit cards are widely accepted here and ATM access is widespread. Exchange currency only at authorized outlets such as banks and hotels, and exchange only what you think you will spend in the country. Coins cannot be reconverted on departure. Save all receipts from any currency exchange transaction. You may be asked to produce them when you exit the country, and they are required if you intend to reconvert local currency.

In restaurants a service charge is built into menu prices. However, it's customary to round up amounts when paying the waiter or waitress if you're happy with the service. This means that you might hand the server CHF 50 for a CHF 47 meal. If you're paying by credit card, hand the server a cash tip of up to 5%. For Taxis as in restaurants, round up or add 5% when you're happy with the service. Tips to your chalet staff are entirely at your discretion.

Travel documents are your responsibility. In general you should have: a signed, valid passport that will remain valid for at least 6 months beyond the completion of your trip. Your passport must have enough blank pages (excluding amendment pages) available for entry and exit stamps issued when entering and exiting immigration points. The alpine climate is cold and visitors should wear warm, waterproof clothing at all times when outdoors during the winter. Hats and gloves are also essential to prevent frostbite. Sunglasses or ski goggles are also necessary to reduce the glare of the sun on the snow.

It is advisable to contact your doctor before you travel if you have any specific health concerns and imperative to take out appropriate travel and medical insurance. Winter sports involve a high degree of risk and you should be in good health and carry adequate medical insurance in case of winter sports accident, including cover for air ambulance.

The finishing touches

Ever dreamt of driving through the Chianti hills in a red Ferrari, or along the Moyenne Corniche to Monaco in a Bentley? How about sailing along the Cote d'Azur to St Tropez in a private yacht or speed boat? Sometimes the home is all that you need, but if you're lured into culture, excitement, activity, improving your cooking or simply dabbling in landscapes, then speak to one of our Villa Specialists for an insight into what we can arrange. These are what we call our ‘Finishing Touches’.

The list is by no means exhaustive and we always welcome requests, however obscure you may think they are! Our local offices enable us to control the quality of the services on offer and the depth of knowledge our local teams have is impressive. Our aim is to provide guests with the authentic sights, flavours and experiences of the region they are staying in.
