Zermatt | Bedrooms: 4 | Sleeps: 8

Rates: Rates available on request.

The incredibly stylish and original Heinz Julen Penthouse has been designed by Zermatt's internationally acclaimed architect, Heinz Julen himself!  The double level 260m² Penthouse is filled with original hand-made furniture (including Julen's famous chandeliers and chairs) and special unique design features such as a fireplace nestling in the middle of the living room window. Extensive use of glass fills the Penthouse with natural light creating a bright and airy atmosphere. The property has featured in several designer magazines.

Its location perched high on a hill gives it spectacular views of the village and the Mischabel Mountains, yet access to the heart of the village is easy. The chalet is a 2 minute walk from the top of the Omnia Hotel lifts, for which you will have a private key. The village end of the lift delivers you to the heart of Zermatt, in the main street close to the church. Set over three floors, up to 8 guests are comfortably accommodated in 4 bedrooms. Each bedroom is a good size and all are beautifully decorated. Each bedroom has an en-suite shower/WC, TV and a balcony. There is a huge living area with a fireplace and if you want some quiet time there are other cozy seating areas to chill out in. After a day out & about you may wish to make the most of the spa facilities which includes a glass fronted sauna, an exercise room with a treadmill and two loungers. The Heinz Julen Penthouse is located above the Heinz Julen Loft, another Heinz Julen gem that sleeps 6. Both chalets could be rented together enabling a group of up to 14 guests to stay in the same location while benefiting from the space and privacy that only a sole-occupancy luxury chalet can provide.

Tipping Suggestions

In restaurants a service charge is built into menu prices. However, it's customary to round up amounts when paying the waiter or waitress if you're happy with the service. This means that you might hand the server CHF 50 for a CHF 47 meal. If you're paying by credit card, hand the server a cash tip of up to 5%. For Taxis as in restaurants, round up or add 5% when you're happy with the service. Tips to your chalet staff are entirely at your discretion.

Arrival & Departure Formalities

Travel documents are your responsibility. In general you should have:

  • Overseas passport holders require a valid passport, but a visa is not necessary for stays of up to three months. In general passports are required, except by EU nationals holding a valid national ID card.

Weather

Switzerland's winter temperature range is -2 °C (28 °F) to 7 °C (45 °F), with the snow remaining in the Alps until around April.

Health

It is advisable to contact your doctor before you travel if you have any specific health concerns and imperative to take out appropriate travel and medical insurance. Winter sports involve a high degree of risk and you should be in good health and carry adequate medical insurance in case of winter sports accident, including cover for air ambulance.

Electricity

Electrical service in Switzerland is supplied at 220-240 volts/50 hertz.

Driving InfoRMATION

  • Traffic from the RIGHT has right of way, except at roundabouts or if their road has a white line across it.
  • You should always be carrying in the car your Passport or national ID, driver’s licence, the car insurance papers and ownership (rental) papers.
  • National speed limit on motorways is 120 km/h, on open roads 80 km/h and in towns 50 km/h.
  • In Switzerland you pay an annual motorway tax, even if you're only using the motorways for an hour or two. A vehicle sticker, or vignette, must be displayed on the windscreen by all vehicles. Of course, if you don't need to use a motorway you don't need to pay, although it's difficult to cross the country without doing so.You can for example buy them in Switzerland from customs offices at the frontier or service stations, garages and post offices.
  • There are strict laws concerning drinking and driving. Anything over 0.08 per cent and you could face anything up to imprisonment.
  • Snow chains are recommended to be carried everywhere in Switzerland during winter, and if you do not carry and fit them when conditions demand the police can prevent you continuing your journey.

The finishing touches

Ever dreamt of driving through the Chianti hills in a red Ferrari, or along the Moyenne Corniche to Monaco in a Bentley? How about sailing along the Cote d'Azur to St Tropez in a private yacht or speed boat? Sometimes the home is all that you need, but if you're lured into culture, excitement, activity, improving your cooking or simply dabbling in landscapes, then speak to one of our Villa Specialists for an insight into what we can arrange. These are what we call our ‘Finishing Touches’.

The list is by no means exhaustive and we always welcome requests, however obscure you may think they are! Our local offices enable us to control the quality of the services on offer and the depth of knowledge our local teams have is impressive. Our aim is to provide guests with the authentic sights, flavours and experiences of the region they are staying in.
