I had been to the Cote d’Azur before, but this was the first time I could actually call a villa my home for the holidays. Already the arrival to Nice Airport was spectacular in every sense, with the Mediterranean Sea on one side and the mountain panorama of the Alps to the other. Leaving the airport in our rental car, our path was lined with palm trees and we immediately felt that the holiday had started.

Driving to La Bergerie de Tanneron led us away from the Sea and further inland, which turned out to be equally as beautiful as the coast had been. We passed through picturesque villages that seem to be still undiscovered by tourists and allow for the opportunity to mix with the locals during a game of the popular sport ‘Petanque’, or Boules, as it is often called.

The villa itself is a small paradise. Everywhere around us the views stretched over green hills, which are lovely for walks. The house itself has a very welcoming and warm feel to it and we very much enjoyed having dinner on the terrace and spending time by the pool. Being here, you could hardly imagine that the Sea is less than half an hour away.

Our daytrips took us to St Tropez, Cannes and the breath-taking hilltop village of Eze. With its art galleries, cobbled streets and special atmosphere, Eze is well worth a visit. We had lunch at Chateau de la Chevre d’Or, which I would recommend to anyone for the stunning views and the gardens. For evening drinks, we went to Chateau Eza, taking in the magnificent views of the coast as it was lit up by the lights along the shore.

After exploring the area, we were happy to get back to our hideout in the country every evening, which provided a peaceful opposite to the hustle and bustle of the Cote d’Azur. The rose garden at the villa was one of my favourite spots, followed by the local bakery as a close second! As our week at the Cote d’Azur ended, we were sad to leave this beautiful place, but happy to return home with some great memories and the certainty that we’d prefer a villa to a hotel any day.
