A villa rental is a fabulous way to enjoy the good life with family and friends.

Our villa consultants travel regularly to refresh their knowledge and uncover new villas to add to our ever-expanding portfolio of luxury properties, from romantic and traditional farmhouses to modern, artistic villas with all the bells and whistles. It's one of the perks of the job, but it also ensures that we're providing you with the most up to date insights on your holiday destination of choice, as well as ensuring that our villas are up to the consistently high standard that you - and we - expect. We've added a host of spectacular villas to our books in the last few weeks, and our consultants can't wait to tell you just why they are so special.

Tuscany

Travel Specialists Becca Proietti and Michelle Carroll spent a week eating their way around Tuscany this autumn.

October was an excellent time to visit Tuscany: the season of the white truffle! What an introduction to the region, as our first stop was Villa Vistarenni where we met Leonardo Grazzi, our local chef, who we recommend to clients staying in the area. Leonardo gave us a demonstration of home-made pasta, before serving us courgette fritters, tender beef and a light rocket salad, followed by millefeuille and fresh strawberries. This set us up for our next visit, to Francigena, which has just enjoyed its first full season on our books. Francigena has sweeping views across the glorious vineyards, olive groves and villages of the Chianti countryside, and its terraces were the perfect place to enjoy home grown persimmons and espresso. From Francigena we moved on to one of our most exciting new villas, Il Palagio, a stunning hilltop bolthole and also the lovingly restored home of Sting and Trudie Styler. Il Palagio offers something really different to our portfolio of villas. It has a rustic elegance that comes from a long history of illustrious owners, from the eminent Martelli family to Countesses, Dukes and now global rock stars. The buildings are scattered across the beautiful 350 hectare estate which produces its own olive oil, wine and honey (which you can take home with you) and each villa, for there are several, has its own style. We discovered a number of quirky elements such as a giant chessboard conceived by Sting himself, a private wine cellar, a 10ft Buddha statue and a recording studio and music room. We think it's the perfect place to enjoy Tuscany's incredible food with a group of family and friends.

Amalfi Coast

Senior Travel Specialist Liz Hobley visited Monastero di Positano in October for her first visit to the Amalfi Coast.

It would be hard to find anywhere more quintessentially Italian than the Amalfi Coast, it's got it all, style, glamour, incredible food and beautiful scenery overflowing from every stepped terrace. Monastero di Positano isn't our most recent addition, but it's undoubtedly one of our most unusual properties along this stunning stretch of coastline. Built in 1716, the villa was originally constructed as a residence for a bishop, and you'll feel the resonating sense of history as you cross the threshold. The owners have renovated the property in such a way that you don't notice the modern, luxury touches; the ornate fabrics, oil paintings and ceiling frescoes wouldn't look out of place in a museum or stately home, and many are the original design. The indoor pool looks like a Roman bath, and it has a current for lap swimming. I loved the terrace, which looks down over Positano. There's an ornate fountain that's not actually a fountain at all - it's a beautiful Jacuzzi. This place is a stunning slice of Amalfi history.
Monastero di Positano is arguable one of our most glamorous villas, but it competes with Villa La Colonnata on detail. This villa exudes historic glamour, so pack Audrey Hepburn sunglasses and floaty summer frocks for a week at Villa La Colonnata, and 18th century mansion originally built for a wealthy shipping merchant. The house oozes charm: walls filled with Renaissance paintings, frescoed ceilings and gilt-edged furniture create a real sense of splendour, while the terraces boast some of the best views in the whole of Positano.

Côte d’Azur

Travel coordinator Charlotte Morgan visited villas with wow-factor on the glittering Côte d'Azur in the South of France.

My welcome to the South of France was a warm one - not only due to the late summer sun but also thanks to the welcoming A&K Villas France office and their croissants and pains aux chocolat. After a few days of visiting villa after sensational villa I was looking forward to seeing our new property, La Garoupe. The villa is stunning: uber-contemporary interior, an ancient watchtower set in meticulously landscaped gardens, multiple terraces enabling you to dine in a new location every night and an outdoor lounge next to the pool. Our final day on the French Riviera we travelled along the occasionally precarious mountain roads through the Var region, pausing to let a herd of goats pass with a chorus of clanging bells, the farmer, astride a moped, bringing up the rear. Here we found ourselves at Chateau Cavaliere, less than a kilometre from the beach and the resort of Cavaliere Sur Plage. This grand chateau is exceptional, peering down onto extensive landscaped lawns and a beautiful swimming pool with spa jets and a sun deck. The incredibly hospitable owner joined us for a coffee, as we sat on the terrace reflecting upon the beauty of the area and its many tempting villas.

We have beautiful villas in France, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain available to rent. We also have a fantastic portfolio of ski chalets in the Alps. Please call the Villas & Chalets team on 0845 618 2205 for more information or visit akvillas.com.
