Located in the province of Pisa, Lari is the proud home to more than 15 cherry varieties and the annual cherry festival, known locally as La Sagra delle Cilliegie. The festival takes place in Lari’s main square with local producers showcasing their handpicked culinary specialities. Not only can you taste some of the most delicious cherries in the world, there’s a whole host of shows and concerts to keep you entertained well into the evening.



Harvest Festival - San GimignanoHarvest Festival - San Gimignano
Dates: 13th – 15th June
An uplifting commemoration of the earth’s fertility takes place in San Gimingnano every year with the cultural blend of singing, dancing and medieval games. The three-day event kicks off on Friday evening with captivating performances before two energy filled days of tug of war, Joust of Ramparts and The Procession of The Harvest. This cheerful event, originally to inspire good harvest for the rest of the year is now a gateway into the sights, sounds and smells of medieval Italy, a treasure for avid historians and curious travellers alike.




The Regatta of Saint Ranieri – PisaThe Regatta of Saint Ranieri – Pisa
Dates: June 17th
The Regatta of San Raneri is a day of celebration with deep-rooted history in Pisa. The 1,500 meter race takes place along the picturesque setting of the River Arno where competitors row against the current in one of four boats, a different colour for each district. Dating as far back as the 1290s, traditional customs very much apply. Winners are rewarded with an ox or a rooster while losers receive a pair of goslings and jeering crowds.



Calcio Storico – FlorenceCalcio Storico – Florence
Dates: Final June 24th

Travel back to the time of gladiators with this incredible infusion of football, rugby and wrestling. Originating from the 1500s the Calico Storico was originally played for the entertainment of rich aristocrats and has since progressed into a celebration of Italian history. The players dress in sixteenth century costumes throughout the matches creating the perfect blend of culture and sport.




Calcio Storico – FlorenceThe Siena Palio - Siena
Dates: July 2nd & August 16th
Held twice a year in celebration of The Virgin Mary’s Assumption, The Siena Palio horse race is one of Italy’s most famous sporting events. Although the race attracts around 20,000 international guests every year, its local popularity is proved by the flocking 40,000 Sienese. The electric atmosphere can be likened to that of a football stadium making it impossible not to get into the excitement. If you have the time, take part in the delightful al fresco suppers held on the main streets of each competing district for a traditional feast the night before the race.
