About La Castellina
There can’t be a more fitting location for a Tuscan villa than a Chianti wine estate. La Castellina is close to the historic delights of Castellina in Chiant, yet far enough away to be disturbed only by tranquil birdsong and the rhythmic clanging of goats.
This Tuscan villa overlooks hill towns hidden by vineyards and cloaked by hills that roll into the Apuan Alps. It’s an impossibly pretty, ancient farmhouse that’s surrounded by olive groves, oak woods and cypress trees. Yet, the cultural delights of Florence and Siena are just a day-trip away.
The chic country retreat of La Castellina could not feel more Tuscan. Its authentic features lend the restored farmhouse a warm, homely feel. Terracotta tiles, wood beams, shuttered windows, vaulted halls and arched doors all hark back to a simpler age. And the traditional bread oven may just be for decoration but it adds immeasurably to the feel of a time when bread was made each day in the home.
The six cosy bedrooms, furnished with antique pieces, are generously spread across three levels. Le Castellina can accommodate 12 around its dining table. The spacious sitting room’s grand piano can be heard from the covered terrace that adjoins it. From the dining area outside you’ll enjoy magnificent views across the valley as you tuck into a freshly prepared Tuscan feast.
The generous swimming pool is surrounded by shaded loggias. And this must be the perfect spot for a sundowner as evening falls on another perfect day in Tuscany.
